Antigenics Inc. (Antigenics), is a biotechnology company focused on developing and commercializing technologies to treat cancers and infectious diseases, primarily based on immunological approaches.

The Company’s principal product candidate is Oncophage (vitespen), a patient-specific therapeutic cancer vaccine.

Oncophage has been tested in Phase III clinical trials for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma, the common type of kidney cancer, and for the treatment of metastatic melanoma.

It has also been tested in Phase I and Phase II clinical trials in a range of indications and is in a Phase II clinical trial in recurrent glioma, a type of brain cancer. The Company’s product candidate portfolio also includes QS-21 Stimulon adjuvant (QS-21), which is used in numerous vaccines, AG-707, a therapeutic vaccine program for the treatment of genital herpes and Aroplatin, a liposomal chemotherapeutic for the treatment of solid malignancies and B-cell lymphomas

Products and technologies

Oncophage : Oncophage received fast track and orphan drug designations from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for both kidney cancer and metastatic melanoma as well as orphan drug designation from the EMEA for kidney cancer. In 2009, Oncophage also received orphan drug designations from the FDA and EMEA for glioma.

Aroplatin: Aroplatin™ is an investigational liposomal formulation of a third-generation, DACH platinum chemotherapeutic that is currently being evaluated in clinical trials. It is a new chemical entity that is structurally similar to Eloxatin^® (oxaliplatin, Sanofi-Aventis), an approved treatment for colorectal cancer.

ATRA-IV:   ATRA-IV (formerly known as ATRAGEN^®) is a liposome-encapsulated, intravenous form of all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA), a derivative of vitamin A. An oral formulation (Vesanoid^®, tretinoin, Hoffmann-La Roche) is commercially available in the United States for treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia.

ATRA-IV has received orphan drug designations from the US Food and Drug Administration for T-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and acute and chronic leukemia.
