These headaches arise as a symptom of another medical disorder. More than 300 organic causes of such headaches exist.

Post-traumatic headache
Reactive headache
Rebound headache
Sinus headache

Post-traumatic headache (PTH) is common in people with head and neck injuries. A PTH can occur after a mild, moderate or severe injury. Most PTHs begin up to seven days after the injury and go away as the injury heals. Most can be treated with OTC (over-the-counter) pain-relievers such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin). However, sometime head and neck injuries cause chronic headaches or may trigger or worsen a headache disorder that you already have.

Reactive headaches are those triggered by a "reaction" to something in your environment or your life.

Rebound headaches are also known “medication over-use” headaches. They are caused by regular over-use of certain pain-relievers and other chronic headache medications. Rebound headaches are fairly common. In fact, one study found that 73% of people who are headache clinic patients suffered from chronic, daily headaches caused by over-use of medications.

Normally, when you have a headache, you may take a pain- or headache symptom- reliever. If the medicine is effective, it relieves the headache. When a person regularly takes the medicine too often or in too high a dose, he or she can fall into a medication over-use cycle that leads to rebound headache.

Sinus headache may well be the most misdiagnosed headache disorder. Some 80% to 90% of people who believe they have sinus headaches actually suffer from a form of migraine instead. The reason for this confusion is that the feeling of pressure around your sinuses can occur not only during sinus headache, but also during migraine and other headache attacks. In addition, certain sinus medications contain pain-relieving ingredients that can ease headaches symptoms, further convincing a person that he or she suffers from sinus headaches. If you suffer from what seems to be frequent sinus headaches, visit a headache specialist to find out if you actually have a migraine or some other type of headache.
